Quick Tour (1 of 6): Live Web Statistics
WhosOn gives you a real time view of your website visitor
activity. You can watch visitors arrive at your site and
move from page to page in real time. This is referred
to as live web statistics or just 'live stats'.
You can see where they came from (the Referrer), and
specific data about the visitor, such as Country & City, Organization, Browser and Operating System. You can see if
the visitor has been to your site before and if so, details
of each previous visit.
All this information is updated before your eyes in real
time as it happens.
Being able to watch live stats has a number of benefits, just a few being:
- You can engage visitors that have not found the information
they were looking for. You can invite the visitor to a chat and send them the correct
page or help with their order.
- You can react quickly to how your visitors use your site.
- You can see the visitor's organization and then make contact via other means (telephone,
mail etc).
- You can instantly see if it's safe to reboot your server or update your site when
there a few visitors.
- When chatting to a visitor you can instantly see what page they are on and the pages
they have viewed so far.
WhosOn can monitor visitors using embedded Javascript in your web pages (page tagging), or server-side code on PHP, ASP or ASPX pages, or your web server's log files (W3C Extended for IIS or NCSA for Apache).
